Gotta Get Theroux This. In 1994 fledgling journalist Louis Theroux was given a one-off gig on Michael Moore’s TV Nation. Presenting a segment on apocalyptic religious sects. Gotta Get Theroux This, Gawky, socially awkward and totally unqualified, his first reaction to this exciting opportunity was panic. But he’d always been drawn to off-beat characters, so maybe his enthusiasm would carry the day. Or, you know, maybe it wouldn’t . . .
In Gotta Get Theroux This, Louis takes the reader on a joyous journey from his anxiety-prone childhood to his unexpectedly successful career. Nervously accepting the BBC’s offer of his own series. He went on to create an award-winning documentary style that has seen him immersed in the weird worlds of paranoid US militias. Also secretive pro-wrestlers, get under the skin of celebrities like Max Clifford and Chris Eubank. In addition to tackle gang culture in San Quentin prison. Moreover all the time wondering whether the same qualities that make him good at documentaries might also make him bad at life.
As Louis woos his beautiful wife Nancy and learns how to be a father, he also dares to take on the powerful Church of Scientology. Just as challenging is the revelation that one of his old subjects, Jimmy Savile, was a secret sexual predator. More importantly prompting him to question our understanding of how evil takes place. Filled with wry observation and self-deprecating humour, this is Louis at his most insightful and honest best.

Book Description
A funny, insightful memoir by much-loved documentary maker Louis Theroux. Not only … but also who takes us on a weird and wonderful journey through his life and two decades of groundbreaking television.
From the Inside Flap
In 1994 fledgling journalist Louis Theroux was given a one-off gig on Michael Moore’s TV Nation. Also presenting a segment on apocalyptic religious sects. Gawky, socially awkward and totally unqualified, his first reaction to this exciting opportunity was panic. But he’d always been drawn to off-beat characters, so maybe his enthusiasm would carry the day. Or, you know, maybe it wouldn’t . . . In Gotta Get Theroux This, Louis takes the reader on a joyous journey through his life and unexpectedly successful career. Nervously accepting the BBC’s offer of his own series, he went on to create an award-winning documentary style that has seen him immersed in worlds as diverse as racist US militias and secretive pro-wrestlers, the violent gangs of Johannesburg and extreme drinkers in London. Arguably his biggest challenge was corralling celebrities in his When Louis Met series, with Jimmy Savile proving most elusive. Blindsided when the revelations about Savile came to light, Louis was to reflect again on the nature of evil he had spent decades uncovering. Filled with wry observation, larger-than-life characters, and self-deprecating humour, this is Louis at his insightful and honest best.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The greatest story ever told
20 September 2019
Format: eBook
This book used at least 25 of the 26 available letters, (I can’t remember seeing a z but I could be wrong,)
Many of these letters were formed into words and phrases and I was able to interpret these as the writings of TV personality Louis Theroux,
As the words on the page start to fill up from top left to bottom right cleverly the producers of this book have added additional pages in order to facilitate extra writing that couldn’t fit on 1 single page. This pattern continues for a few hundred pages at which point it stops,
It’s OBVIOUSLY NOT as good as the telly because you can’t see or hear anyone but if you use your imagination and try to remember some of (if not all) the words that are written you can sort of follow along overall I would give this book 5 stars out of a possible ten,

I’ve just purchased this book for a friend. Haven’t read it myself but since Louis has always come across as a thoroughly decent chap and I’ve always been very fond of his impersonation of Mr Humphries from Are You Being Served (‘I’m free!’), I’ve decided to award him maximum points. Well done Louis!

What did I like?
I particularly enjoyed Louis’ use of the Oxford comma.
What did I dislike?
I particularly did not enjoy his use of the phrase ‘really unique’. It made me kick a small child.
What did I use this for?
I used it to see which celebrity or personality I think will be next on the noncelist.
FULL DISCLOSURE – I haven’t bought this book yet but I know it will be fantastic. Please do not buy David Cameron’s book.

What on earth is this about? I pick up the book of one of my favourite authors and I get this drivel. What’s happened to the grumpy man who so caught the mood of England in “the kingdom of the sea” in the 80s. Where is the guy that realised that he had travelled the world but didn’t know what was going on in his own country in “the Deep South”. Who on earth are the Westboro Baptist’s and who cares?

If you enjoy watching Louis on the tv you will absolutely love this book. He goes into some detail on some of the main tv programmes, the fantastic Scientology film as well as elements of his private life, but by far is the indepth goings on and his personal feelings on the Jimmy Savile affair and how for some ridiculous reason he still appears to carry some guilt. I adore watching Louis’s programmes and am happy to say I have watched them all and this book just adds to the understanding of the man himself. All I can say is buy and read This amazing book.

Being an illiterate often makes reading hard, infact impossible, so I just have to look at the page and guess if I think the black scribbles on the white pages would have been good. Louis Theroux did a great job with a really good ratio of hieroglyphic nonsense to white textured pages, on the basis of that I will be giving it 5 stars, regrettably pictographic scoring systems are another thing I struggle to understand so best hope that 5 stars is a good thing.
